Treatability Studies

Bioremediation, Chemical Oxidation and ZVI

Years of laboratory-to-field research have repeatedly demonstrated the strong correlation between laboratory bench scale treatability study results and achievement of remediation goals in the field. Laboratory treatability studies are a cost effective tool to simultaneously evaluate multiple performance variables, facilitate stakeholder "buy in," optimize performance prior to field implementation and ultimately reduce remediation costs.

SiREM's state-of-the-art treatability laboratory is fully equipped with the instrumentation and staff to conduct high quality treatability studies to evaluate bioremediation, chemical oxidation and zero-valent iron based technologies to treat chlorinated solvents, petroleum hydrocarbons and many other recalcitrant chemicals.

Surfactant Flushing 

To formulate the best surfactant system for the specific site geochemistry and NAPL, our partner Surbec will need to perform a treatability study. The treatability study will include phase behavior studies for determining the optimum surfactant formulation for efficiently mobilizing the site NAPL. It will also include studies of surfactant/groundwater and surfactant/soil interactions to assure that the surfactant system remains active at aquifer conditions, as well as column tests to determine the optimum injection strategy and required volumes of post-surfactant recycled ground water injection.
