In Situ Chemical Reduction (ISCR) is an innovative environmental remediation technique used for soil and/or groundwater remediation to reduce the concentrations of targeted environmental contaminants to acceptable levels.  ISCR combines biological processes and zero valent iron (ZVI) particle-driven abiotic pathways to chemically reduce persistent organic compounds such as chlorinated solvents, pesticides and energetic compounds into harmless end products. The incorporation of ZVI enhances remediation by enabling various chemical reduction pathways and limits the formation of undesirable chlorinated ethene breakdown products such as Cis-DCE and vinyl chloride.

Tersus’ MicroEVO™ ISCR is composed of reactive metal particles suspended in a controlled-release water mixable oil (EDS-ER™). Our average ZVI particle size is approximately 2-3 μm. This is the optimum size for in situ remediation and provides a unique combination of rapid reactivity and mobility through groundwater.  With MicroEVO™ ISCR you get a one-two punch; (1) rapid abiotic reactions along with (2) the polishing effects of anaerobic bioremediation processes.

The MAJOR DIFFERENCE between MicroEVO™ ISCR and other ISCR products is the reactivity of our ZVI. The graph below provides kinetic data comparing ZVI in MicroEVO™ ISCR to carbonyl iron. The ZVI in MicroEVO™ ISCR is far more reactive than similar sized materials on the market.


Another significate advantage is the ease of use. Small particles allow for injection directly into contaminated groundwater at pressures that are often below 20 psi. A unique feature MicroEVO™ ISCR is the ability to be injected through horizontal and vertical screened wells as well as sampler screens via DPT.
