For an enhanced reductive dechlorination project with bioaugmentation, geochemical conditions for the anaerobic water should meet the following requirements:
Tersus provides amino acids (L-Cysteine) to create anaerobic water for your bioaugmentation projects. We suggest a dosage between 0.05% and 0.1%. We suggest doing a small bucket test first to confirm the dosage required.
0.05% = ~0.5 kg (1.1 lbs.) L-Cysteine in 250 gallons tap water (0.0005 x 946.35 kg)
0.1% = ~1kg (2.2 lbs.) L-Cysteine in 250 gallons tap water (0.001 x 946.35 kg)
Amino acids are slightly acidic. We suggest that you also monitor pH of the media. In the lab, we were able to keep the pH neutral by adding equal amounts for amino acid and sodium bicarbonate. It is possible that a lesser amount of sodium bicarbonate maybe needed depending on your site water. At a recent project, municipal water was used and no pH adjustment was necessary.
Note, sodium bicarbonate typically has a pH of 8, minimizing the danger of overshooting if pH adjustment is needed. You should also be careful when adding sodium bicarbonate. Do this in a very well-ventilated area with protective clothing and safety glasses. You may get some minimal fizzing when adding the sodium bicarbonate if the water is not buffered.
We suggest adding approximately 10 times the well casing volume to each injection point prior to injecting the bioaugmentation cultures for enhanced reductive dechlorination The same volume can be added after the injection of culture, or less can be used after if the volumes become an issue.
